Many people ask what they can do to help influence the outcome of this matter. In fact, hundreds of people from throughout the region have expressed their strong concern. You can add your voice and, yes, it can help.
It has been the engagement of hundreds of people like you who have managed to keep this golf course from going forward. The original idea of a high-end and expensive championship 18-hole municipally owned and operated golf course has been dumbed down to a 9-hole golf course whose design, development and operation might be outsourced to a private company.
But the right solution is to prevent the development of any golf course whatsoever and develop Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve for the kind of open and natural habitat it should be with year-round public access for hikers, bikers, dog walkers, and those who enjoy being in and observing nature.
Here is a list of things you can do:
- Contact your Lake County Commissioner – if you live in Lake County. Make sure they know how you feel about preserving a natural environment at Fort Sheridan.
- If live in Highland Park, contact the mayor and city council members. They should know that their emphatic support for a golf course at Fort Sheridan is misplaced.
- If your Congressman is Robert J. Dold, write him and express your concern about golf at Fort Sheridan. The US government is a party to the golf course requirement and their cooperation may be required to revise the requirement.
- Support the social media effort
